KiNOX's interview #7 |
| Target :
J-ROM of Arcade ROMs
from Japan Interviewer(s): MGandhi and MickoZ Date : 99/08/15 |
This interview is a part of KiNOX's website.
Here, we interviewed J-ROM, it's a very interesting interview, especially if you're an Arcade Emulation fan, J-ROM is also a very nice person who's always willing to respond to your questions (except the one listed at the end of this interview and I understand why :D). Take in consideration that english isn't his first language, so there can be some "minor" syntax error, but I've actually no problems to understand him :-)
1. A lot of people ask : how to dump an arcade PCB? Can you explain process on how to do it, for our visitors :]
OK, It is too easy to dump :-)
1) remove the EPROMs from your PCB
2) read the data from EPROMs by EPROM Programmer
3) restore the EPROMs to your PCB
4) write the FILE_ID.DIZ :-)
Period. If you have interest to use EPROM programmer, check the http://www.needhams.com/ etc.
2. Almost all the ROMs releases from "Arcade ROMs from Japan" are supported by Raine, do the Raine team is asking to "Arcade ROMs from Japan" for the roms?
Hmm, almost not. I dump only my dumped boards or releasable
images.
But I give priority to some TAITO/JALECO titles for RAINE.
3. Where do you get the PCBs?
PCB shops (^^). There are some PCB shops in Japan. Some PCBs are sold very cheap price as Junk PCBs by the shops. It is junk but almost all ROMs are still alive (ie. I bought KunioKun (bootleg) for 100yen, etc. (1USD = 114yen)).
4. Do there is some chances for "Cisco Heat" to be supported by Raine?
I cannot answer this question :-) Please ask Antiriad about that.
5. What's the systems which Arcade ROMs from Japan can dump roms?
We cannot dump some used boards' PLCC or QFP roms like the Lost World PCB etc. Some PCBs' ROMs are directly soldered on the board, We can dump them but it takes long times to desolder them.
6. What's your favorite game developer(s) and why?
Hmm, I like any developers, but especially Nichibutsu and Data East. Nichibutsu's "UFO Robo Dangar", "Ninja Emaki" and Data East's "Chelnov", "Wonder Planet" are some of my favorite titles. Because I like any shoot-em-up titles. I don't like Beat-em-up like SF2 except Tekken/2 (^^;
7. Do you own or owned a PCB of SEGA?
Hmm yes I have some SEGA board, especially TETRIS series :-)
I have some others like Puyo Puyo etc. I don't have Out Run etc...
8. I want to know a little thing, do there is some chance to dump EEPROM from pinball machines?
Hmm probably I can dump it if I have any chance to get the pinball machine :-) BTW I like "Time Machine (Data East)".
9. Do there is some racing games which we can expect soon dumped?
I have WGP(TAITO) but not yet dumped. I will dump it soon.
10. Where Arcade ROMs Japan (the members) are located?
I lives in Japan and most of the contributors also lives in Japan. There are many games that are only distributed in Japan, so WE want to dump them all :-)
11. Last question, what do you think about open source emulators?
"Open source" is very nice for the emulator scene. But I like emulators, whether it is open source or not. BTW I will dump any PCBs even if these are not emulated, I dumped PCBs for all the PCB owners' convenience (for repairing PCB etc.).
12.Thanks a lot for your time, continue the great work!
Any last words?
Thank you, btw I've some off topic words for finish:
Lately, I've received too many emails like as "What emus support these
roms?", "Does RAINE supports SCONTRA?", "Please tell me how to use
these files?",
etc. I won't answer these questions at all.
